The fixed annual deadlines
These dates do not move. In our experience most penalties arise from a missed filing rather than from an exceeded limit - the paperwork is what gets noticed first.
| Filing | Due | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Form V Environmental Statement | 30 September | Financial year ending 31 March |
| Hazardous waste annual return (Form 4) | 30 June | Financial year ending 31 March |
| EPR annual return - plastic | 30 June | Preceding financial year, on the CPCB portal |
| EPR annual return - e-waste | 30 June | Preceding financial year |
| Battery waste EPR return | 30 June | Preceding financial year |
Deadlines set by your own consent
These have no common date - they are written into your consent to operate, and they differ by unit:
- Consent renewal - start six months before expiry. Red category consents are typically shorter-dated and reviewed more closely
- Ambient and stack monitoring - frequency stated in the consent, commonly monthly to quarterly. See ambient air and stack monitoring
- Effluent analysis - frequency and parameters per consent
- Noise monitoring - where a noise condition applies, see noise survey
- EC compliance report - half-yearly, by 1 June and 1 December, for sites holding environmental clearance
Event-driven obligations
- Consent amendment before any change of product, capacity or process
- Fresh environmental clearance for expansion beyond the approved capacity
- Hazardous waste authorisation amendment when a new waste stream appears
- MSIHC notification when hazardous chemical inventory crosses a threshold - see MAH obligations
- Incident reporting, within the timeframe the applicable rule sets
A practical way to run it
Put every date above into one calendar with a named owner and a reminder ninety days ahead - not thirty. Ninety days is enough to commission monitoring, get results back and correct a problem before the filing is due. Thirty days is only enough to file whatever you happen to have.
If you would rather not run it internally, that is what our statutory compliance service does.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if Form V is filed late?
It is a non-compliance under the Environment (Protection) Rules and is recorded against the unit. In practice the bigger consequence is that it surfaces at consent renewal and during any audit or due diligence.
Our consent expires soon. When should we apply for renewal?
Six months before expiry. Boards take time, queries are common, and operating on an expired consent is a serious violation - not a paperwork lapse.
Is this list complete for every industry?
It covers what applies to most manufacturing units. Sector-specific rules add to it - MAH sites, units handling bio-medical waste and CEMS-linked industries all carry extra obligations. A gap assessment establishes your exact list.
Can you manage the calendar for us?
Yes. We maintain the full statutory calendar for client sites, prepare and file the returns, and give advance notice of what monitoring is needed to support each one.
